28 February,1997,an earthquake occurred in Iran.The epicenter was located near the city of Ardabil in the northern part of Iran.It occurred at 12:57 UTC (4:27 pm of Iran's standard time) and lasted for about 15 seconds.The magnitude of the Ardabil earthquake is 6.1Mw.
The event caused at least 1,100 to die, 2,600 injured and left 36,000 homeless.This was the impact of it.The extent of damage was caused by the 350 aftershocks of the earthquake.It killed people.But was unknown how many.But just a small village in Varania,near the epicenter,that had a population of 85,was swiped out,leaving behind only 20.And within the village of Villadareh,85 corpses were recovered.
The Iranian government,in response,declared 3 days of mourning for the victims who died in the earthquake.And the president made his way down to the damaged area on 4th march 1997.More than 8,7oo tents,21,800 blankets,15,300 heaters and lanterns,2,000 bottles of baby formula and 80 tons of bread were given to the survivors of the earthquake.And,transports like trucks,ambulances,vans,
helicopters were provided for the victims.
I think,to minimize the damages of such events,people there in Ardabil should had gain more knowledge on earthquakes and other natural disasters.If they had,they might have been able to make it out there.And in my opinion,if the government had predicted that there would be an earthquake coming,they should warn them before hand.
